Today, Friday the 31st of March, is "A Day in the Life of Taking Flight". Read all about it in this other thread (http://www.takingflight.us/forums/showthread.php?t=4408).

So, take a picture today.

Post it here, in this thread.

Simple, eh?

The Howard Frankland Bridge, part of Interstate 275, going east-bound from St. Petersburg to Tampa. Took me 4 years to conquer this monster fear, but I did it! The confidence after my first solo flight was key...for it was the very next week that I forced myself to solo this bridge going east-bound. Flying is a piece of cake compared to this segment of ground transportation!!!!!

Okay we are either really dedicated or have no lives...

At the risk of the joke getting old... http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g230/KBarrett21/CIMG3945.jpg

First thing I do in the morning (okay noon) is fire up the laptop to check the board while watching Will & Grace on the archaic console TV that we have to use until the brand new flat screen gets out of the shop for the 37th time in less than a year.

I was up all nite with a sick kid. Abbey missed school today (her 3rd day out this week) because she was just miserable with this stomach virus again last nite. Poor kid felt miserable but after letting her sleep in until noon she doesn't show any hint of misery...
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g230/KBarrett21/CIMG3944.jpg

Ah time for lunch then up to my home office to get some real work done!
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g230/KBarrett21/CIMG3946.jpg

Note the Easter bucket and the glass jar of Biscoffs compliments of my good buddy Big Kahuna Ken. My girls think Ken is the greatest because he keeps us stocked with cookies. The girls take a few Biscoffs in their lunch and share them with only the most special of friends and sometimes with their teachers.

More later... Black Pepper Jack Doritos and Pepsi are waiting! (Oh yeah and the turkey sub too...)

Today was report card day for my oldest daughter Jessie.
http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g230/KBarrett21/CIMG3947.jpg

The grades read:
Honors Science 100
Honors Language Arts 100
Honors Math 96 (up from a 94 last semester)
Honors Social Studies 94 (down from a 98)
Reading 99
Strings 98
Art 99

I think pulling the kids out of school for a week in January to go to Disney World really hurt her grades...

Scarlett - this is Jasmine. She loves to chase cats but is scared of raccoons. Jazzy is a Weimador - half Weimeraner and half Labrador.

So first I have had an all day date with none other than my washing machine.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f137/pknnewson/IMG_1016.jpg

Helped Paige make some mud pies, or was it a garden in a wheel barrow?

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f137/pknnewson/IMG_1017.jpg

Next up, watching some tree climbing.

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f137/pknnewson/IMG_1021.jpg

Followed by some gourmet pasta

Finally Katelyn is done for the night!

Not quite sure why the washing machine picture is so huge. Perhaps it wanted to dominate the post, just like it dominated my day:D.

If you poke your head up out of the veal-fattening pen in which I work, you can see the whole farm:

http://www.jeffjetton.com/images/forums/vealfatteningpens.jpg

You'll note that, waaaaay over on the other side, there are, in fact, windows! No one ever opens the shades though. :(

Anyway, my pen is stocked with all the requirements of your average computer nerd:

http://www.jeffjetton.com/images/forums/sudoku.jpg

After work, I headed out to my car, passing my old office building next door. They moved us all over into my current building because the old one was "structurally unsound". It's being torn down to make way for a parking lot. For some reason, the first-floor portion of the elevator is still standing:

http://www.jeffjetton.com/images/forums/oldoffice.jpg

On the short ride back home, I ran into a bit of traffic. Usually it's not that bad. But if some bozo parks on the street during rush hour (which is illegal), it backs up traffic for a half-mile:

http://www.jeffjetton.com/images/forums/traffic.jpg

And here we have said bozo. The red truck. Note the "no parking" signs:

http://www.jeffjetton.com/images/forums/bozo.jpg

Finally, just to keep the trend alive...

Jeff...This was such a good idea...it got me out of the house on a pleasant afternoon! I just couldn't bear to take a picture of my desk and piles of paperwork and post it on the board. So I went to the San Diego Zoo to get a good walk, and play with a new lens I got for my camera (Nikon D-50, 18-200mm VR lens). I also wanted to include a little flying theme...after all...and celebrate almost two years since I got back "in the air". One of my "pre-flying" victories was riding in the Zoo Skyfari. For some reason I developed a fear of riding in that thing, even though I'd ridden it for years, as well as ski lifts. But...then I avoided it for years...and it was actually kind of traumatic the first time I got back in it...but I made myself ride it back and forth, and by the second time I was fine and wondering what the big deal was. It's really strange how the mind works, and how "exposure therapy" can reduce the fears. I took pictures the whole time I was riding in it at first, and that seemed to really help as well. So...here it is...for anyone who has fears of heights...great place to work on it. And you are only on it for about 3 minutes...nice view too. The photo of downtown was taken from the Skyfari, as well as the one of the plane heading toward Lindbergh field. The beautiful dome is on the Museum of Man building in Balboa Park. The flight path of the plane is a LONG ways away from this building...it only seems close because of the telephoto lens. When flying into San Diego, you can see the Skyfari ride from the plane if you sit on the right side of the plane.

Pandas are a favorite attraction here....arriving late in the day means no waiting in line. I love to visit the orangutans and gorillas & watch their antics and interactions. There weren't many other people around...it almost seemed like they knew it was a "private" photo shoot...they were watching me and seemed to pose...after so many years of being in front of millions of cameras...wonder what they think is happening?!

Second part of the day:

Hello Scarlet, Jazzy and Sasha! This is Kiwi (the dog that pees/peed/will pee) on my mother's sofa. He's a shin-tzu (or something like that), 5 months old.

Yago and Giuditta. Yago is half a Great Dane - half a hound. Giuditta is my aunt's cat.

7 p.m. : I went out for a walk. I love spring! I like walking after work, and breathe some fresh air.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b162/Agne80/Immagine042b.jpg

Finally , after the tennis training, I had dinner with Claudio at Portico's.

My dinner : "Tagliolini dello chef".

Sean...Well, it's always "spring in San Diego", but mid-April should be especially nice for viewing gardens, as they are lush after the winter rains (which have been a bit skimpy this year...but still, flowers are blooming). Will you be challenging yourself to conquer new frontiers of boldness and courage on the Zoo Skyfari??? (I admit, it is a G-rated thrill...not a roller-coaster....)

Do you work in a boostore? I am a bookstore addict(that sounds nerdy, doesn't it?). but it's true---I could happily go to one every day.

I really enjoyed these pictures.

Yes I do! Bookstore addicts, we need more of this sort of person.

I am one!!! Bookstores rock!!!

Craig loves bookstores too. We once had a 6-bookstore vacation. Seattle (2) Vancouver BC (2) and Belleveue (2).

Portland, Oregon has Powell's City of Books, purported to be the largest new and used bookstore in the world. It is amazing and manages to be funky while being big. They have a WHOLE BUILDING of technical books down the street, and Craig goes there.

http://www.powells.com/storetour/mappy.html

Did you see the "Books" sign on a store in one of Jeff's photos? I wonder if he goes there and what it is like!

Kari, is it okay to talk about 84 Charing Cross Road? I love that book! I always try to see if a bookstore has a section called "Books About Books."

So if Monica is nerdy, so am I, and I don't care!!!!!

:coffee:

P.S. Back on topic ... I LOVE this thread and all the great pictures ... I think there are some more to come, though .... ???!!!

Why yes, he does!

It's a used bookstore called Bookman Bookwoman (http://www.bookmanbookwoman.com). (It was originally called "Bookman", but then they leased out the store next door and called the expansion "Bookwoman".)

Cramped aisles with rickety, floor-to-almost-ceiling shelves of books. In most cases, they're so jam-packed with books, they "double-shelve" them one behind the other. You have to really dig, which, of course, is all part of the fun! You guys would love it.

I've been to Powell's many times--it's probably my all-time favorite bookstore. New books sitting right next to the used ones... brilliant!

Did you go to Elliott Bay, in Seattle, during your bookstore vacation? That's a good one too.

Not that trip, but we've been to Elliott Bay Books before and it's wonderful on a rainy day. We like the University of Washington bookstore ... they have a huge non-textbook part of the store. And a branch in Bellevue with a cool juice bar/natural cafe attached.

That Bookman/Bookwoman store sounds very explorable! The funny thing is, most bookstores (except for some mega-chains) have their very own personality, like people!!!

Everyday I pass this house. What is this in the front yard? I know it is some sort of farm machinery... but what??? And why would you put it in your front yard? And why would you put mulch around it like a tree?

Sorry so late with this!
