That's my boy! Did you know that your lungs are in the process of reconstruction? Do you know how much you've improved the odds of seeing your children and their children grow up?

During my "quitting" stage, my big thing was Mentos. Those chewy mints. I swear to you, I ate those things like I was on some form of speed. My poor husband kept running to Costco (big warehouse club) and buying them by the case, because he was afraid that I'd pick an old cigarette out of the gutter if he didn't keep me "supplied"! I think it was needing to keep the taste of mint in my mouth.

Anyway, you've only got two more days for the nic to be totally out of your system. Then it's not a "habit" anymore -- it's recovering from an "addiction". If you've made it this far, Jeff, I've no doubt I'm buying that first beer!

Vent here any time!!!

:anon This guy had to give it up -- he kept setting himself on fire!

Jeff, I'm so rooting for you. I think it's great that you are doing this.
Do you exercise? My partner( at work. Can't get my husband to give it up...) recently quit. He was so nasty I was ready to start. But he started doing karate and it helped his mood tremendously.
This is one of the hardest things to do...:tiphat Monica

Hi Jeff,
well done on giving up the weed. I know exactly how hard it is because i had smoked on and off for 20 yrs until i decided to give up on september 12th.
I had been thinking about it for ages, putting it off etc, then it was the anniversary of 9 11 and when i remembered what had happened to all those poor innocent people and what is still happening to their families evey day i realized that i was being selfish and here were all these poor people who didnt have a choice about wether they lived or died yet here i was choosing to kill myself. I thought of my family and my children and how much they needed me and then i got the nicotine patches and gave up. I know i wil never smoke again. Carry on keeping strong, it is the best thing you will ever do for yourself and in a few months you will wonder what you ever saw in it.

Stay with it Jeff!!! :pompoms:

It takes about 6-8 weeks for your system to completely adjust...urges, sleep habits, etc.

I stopped October 1973. Two of my crutches were:

1. When drinking beer, I ate popcorn (to replace the cigs).
2. When I got up in morning I would always have coffee and a cig; I had to give up drinking coffee. To this day, I don't drink coffee...and now I can't even stand the smell especially when it's mixed with all the fancy sweet things. No more => :coffee:

If I had the opportunity, I would have joined a gym. Exercise is a great physical and emotional stress reducer.

I had chest surgery in 1982 (non-related to smoking)...afterwards, the doctor asked if I ever smoked and I told him I did for about 6 years. He said that my lungs didn't show it and they were as pink as a baby's. So they do heal, and start healing the days you stop!!!

I want you to still be smoke free by Phoenix (and of course, forever)....and I'll buy you the next beer!!!

Congrats and keep up the good work!!!!

Giving up the coffee isn't a horrible thing to do either, really. People are way too dependent on caffeine. I know I am. If I don't have my morning coffee, I'm not good for much all day. But all I'll allow myself is that one cup; I used to drink coffee and soda all day, but then I spent the day exhausted and the night tossing and turning.

Jeff... I'm in the same boat... I've had a few, but probably less than a half a pack since Christmas. That's pretty good progress, right?

So, Jeff, it's now been more than a month! Are you tempted to light up ever? Or have you gotten into a routine that doesn't include cigarettes?

Andrea is in the habit of smoking 1 or two cigs after work. Sometimes, when she smokes, I want to join her. We also eat out alot. I spend many dinners on the patios of steak houses.. Thats where all the smokers are. No regrets though.
