Hi!
I am very very concern about the latest accidents with serious consequences. After all these events I have heard that the European Union is planning to develop and publis a black list of airlines with poor safety performance. Is that true? Until that day comes how can flyers know about those dangerous carriers? How can be permitted to transport people if they are known to be unsafe? That doesn't make me feel better because I have the feeling you never know what you are flying, specially with this low cost airlines boom! It seems that anyone can buy an old plane and start carrying people without being even questioned!

Understand me, please... just another crazy victim of FoF...

To be honest with you I find this hard to believe.

If the EU decided to publish an "official" list of "bad airlines" I am ready to bet a GIGANTIC, GARGANTUAN, HUMONGOUS political war would start about "national" airlines and you will see all sort of politicians lining up to protect the airlines of their own countries and blacklisting rival airlines.

EU politicians are not immune to lobbying and thusly I think that whatever black list comes out would not be realistic, reliable or useful ... to anything other than scaring people.

Just my 2c.

The US has a list of airlines they will not allow into their airspace. Switzerland also has airlines that it has black listed. I would be very surprised if independent countries in Europe hadn't barred the odd airline from entering their countries airspace. I will see what info I can gather.

This is what I've read about the black list:

The EU is planning to publish a black list of the airlines that don't meet the basic safety requirements, also to avoid that an airline grounded by one State can fly in another EU State as happened with Flash air. Each State has been invited to publish a black list.
France and Belgium will already publish their list on Monday.

A brief look shows that you would have to work pretty hard to buy a ticket for any of these outfits.

Thanks to all for your help... I have already seen the lists from Belgium and France and I am amazed that they do not include the same airlines (I an airline does not meet safety requirements for France it shouldn't for Belgium either, right) and also that they include such a short number of companies! I think I will try to fly what I know rather than using strange companies...

Cheers!
