I heard about this on the radio yesterday. As the Toronto incident demonstrated, most aircraft "emergencies" result in a perfectly safe landing, and even when there's a bonafide "crash", you're more likely to survive than not. That's not always easy to remember these past couple of days, but it's true.

So it was nice to hear the media report on one of these anticlimactic, safe landings:

Years back: One of our SWA jets couldn't get a main gear down. So, they landed on the other main and the nose wheel. The engine on the side of the stuck gear served as the gear.

Plane landed. Everyone remained seated. Fire folks checked plane out and found no problems. People walked off. Plane jacked up. Stuck gear lowered. Engine removed (no damage to the engine, just the reverser). New engine on, plane back in service the next day. End of story.
