:(

I was up in the night with my 5yo daughter--bonafied croup is what she had (has). She made that awful barking noise, and was having trouble getting a good breath. My heart was pounding as I tried to determine how bad it was! I did the bathroom thing--hot steamy shower, and had her sip some hot apple juice alternated with ice water. She settled down quickly, and within twenty minutes was doing much better. Then I got on the internet to see how scared I should be, since her breathing was still pretty loud. What did moms do before the internet??!! So ask me anything about croup today, and I'll know the answer! My daughter is very hoarse today, and I'm really hoping she doesn't have another episode tonight. Anyone else ever have a croup-y kid?

(This is health related, right?!)

Awww, hugs, Jean. Hope she feels better soon. There is nothing worse than watching your child suffer and not being able to make it stop.

Whooping cough is going around bad down here in Charleston County. My oldest hasnt been vaccinated against it (she was allergic to the vaccine). Yikes!

And when you are up late at nite surfing the net, stop in here. Us night owls are around!

She's still hoarse, and has one of those killer sore throats, but she's done with the fever, and hasn't had any more croup episodes. I think we're on the mend. Thanks, Kelley!

Awww glad she is feeling a little better. Have you tried Motrin for her sore throat? That and those red throat drops (Luden's??) really help Jess when she is feeling icky.

Send her a big :grouphug: from us and here is one for you!

Yep, lots of Motrin. Heated apple juice diluted w/water to soothe. No Ludens, since I'm paranoid about her choking on them. I did get the Chloraseptic strips, but she doesn't like them very well. And the humidifier running non-stop in her room. Let's see, did I forget anything???

Us and our Mommy comfort measures!

Thanks, Kelley!

P.S. I did learn that giving cough or cold medicine is really not good for kids with croup--may make it worse because of the drying up it does. The only night I gave it to Jen, was the night she had such a rough time.
