I too am so thankful the Air France incident turned out as well as it did regarding no serious injuries or fatalities. I can't say it has set me back much in my FOF recovery, although, I'm not flying anytime soon so I'm sure when I do, it will be back in my mind. Assuming it was the weather that caused this and that it was the pilot's ultimate decision to land during this weather, I was just wondering what happens to the pilots in these situations, do they go back to the simulator for awhile or are they no longer pilots?

What happens now is there will be a thorough investigation of the incident, and appropriate action will be taken depending on what the cause is determined to be. Fortunately, every time there is an incident like this, it is investigated to no end by the Federal government (in this case, Canada.. althougth apparently there is a US NTSB team there as well and I'm sure French authorities too). The investigation will determine the exact cause of the accident, and the aviation community will go on from there and learn from it, making flying EVEN MORE SAFE in the future.
The thing with these investigations is that we will nto get instant gratification. That's actually a good thing because it means it is being handles thoroughly. From a FoF standpoint, I say we just move on. But, it's natural to want to talk about this, of course.
No telling what will happen to the pilots. That will depend on the outcome of the investigation and to what degree it is determined (if at all) that they were at fault in this accident.
