Hi All,

I had mentioned in an earlier post that my plan was to purchase my plane ticket this week, but after speaking with a travel agent it was recommended that I wait until July/August (my trip is set for September 10th)

The explanation provided is that while prices are expected to spike over the next short period (I have already seen the cost of my ticket go up $20), they are anticipating a high likelihood that the tickets will come down in price in late July/throughout August. I don't know how far-reaching this plan extends to other countries/airlines - but for my purposes/plan it was recommended to wait.

I am quite OK with this delay. I first had to self-reflect a bit to ensure that I wasn't just feeding into some avoidance strategy. I concluded that I am really quite fine with buying my ticket per se, and would have actually felt worse about getting 'ripped off'..... go figure!

So....ticket buying is a bit on hold for now, for the right reasons. When I do buy it I'll definately post here.

Ok Kallie... That sounds like a good reason!

Airline ticket prices do wierd stuff in the summer and holidays... that is for sure!

Kallie,

Thanks for your message. I've been watching fares for a trip I am taking leaving on September 11th and I've been filled with dismay as the fares keep going up and up. Your news makes me think that I will just hang tight a little while longer!

Hi Becky,

I hope this recommendation works in your favour - as I do not know which country/airline you are referencing for your own trip.

I have my fingers crossed. If the prices skyrocket further and/or never come down, I'll feel just awful I'm sure.

Hi Kallie,

The fares are strange these days. I ended up using frequent flyer miles for a Seattle-Newark trip last month. I'd been saving those miles for a potential trip to Europe but the fares I was getting were as expensive as going to Europe. $650 to Newark???? How could that be?

I'm not sure where I am flyng in September. I'm trying to get somewhat near Lake Placid (where my parents live) which means Albany or Ottawa as top choices, with Newburgh or even one of the NYC airports as other options. I am also possibly stopping off in Philadelphia, which adds even more permutations. We'll see where I can go for the least amount of money!

Good luck to you- may you flights be smooth and your fares be low!

Fares are thru the roof. The flight I just booked for my boss was $2000 for First class or $1090 for Coach or 90k miles. Ugh!

Becky - check flights to SWF (Newburgh/Stewart Field) on Northwest - they usually have the cheapest rates into upstate NY. Wish I was flying there myself. :)
