Jess I have done the same flight with Thomas Cook . The flight took around 4.15, as is usual when flying Uk to Greece if you fly over the Alps you may get a few bumps, does not last too long though and has never been bad.

Thomas Cook are a goos airline in my opinion.

Jess - i said it tongue in cheek but i meant the comment about 'good bunch of people' not being reassuring. I think Royd was trying to be reassuring to you in his own way. :)

No offense meant hunny, I promise.

OK well sorry to Royd if that sounded offensive? im not easily reassured when it comes to planes so thats my explanation if you felt i was being nasty! :grouphug:

No offence taken, was a bit vague Thomas Cook used to be jmc untill the new fashion for naming airlines after the travel companies in an effort to increase brand recognition with passengers. Heard nothing but good things about them.

Hi Jess I've been to Greece and the hotel was 10 min from Heraklion airport. I could see the runway from the beach !! :)
The weather may be windy in Crete, but usually the most windy period starts in August, because of a strong wind called "Meltemi". I went there in August, it was very windy but the plane had no problems at all.
When you land, look on your left and you'll see my hotel !!

Thanks Royd! Do you know what to expect for the weather at the time im flying? 12th july about 11pm at night and then back on the 29th of july but not sure time? Thanks so much. Im so scared about this flight. I havent flown in nearly 3 years  ive been prescribed diazepam which i think is valium so i hope it works because i feel sick before ive even got to the airport! I wish i was on an airline i have travelled on before. I get annoyed with myself because i cant pinpoint where my fear started from... ive been flying since i was an egg and it never bothered me before!?

I flew to Crete with Thomas Cook early June - second time with them. Flight was excellent, very smooth - nice big 757 planes! Nothing to worry about.

Oh my god im soooo scared flying tomorrow. This is it... no turning back! I feel as though i would rather spend months travelling there by ship! Anyway Royd my flight is the Thomas Cookflight from Newcastle to Heraklion its at about 20.55 or it may be 21.00. Now its nearer the time would you be able to tell me about the weather? :sigh:

Right the chart for luchtime shows a little turbulence but your flight path should avoid it and fly well above it. It is halfway down Italy. England and France are clear. There is a strong jet stream but it is right over Athens so you will be well below it at that point. Ill look again tomorrow for 2100.

hi royd! im back excellent flight on way out was very jittery on take off but a couple of stiff drinks helped. thomas cook were excellent. nice plane. lovely people. flight was delayed 3 hours due to technical difficulties: i nearly walked home. on the way back the flight was quite bumpy and i ended up standing most of 4 hours talking to air hostess within thattime i drank about 18 glasses of water lets just say i wasnt very relaxed on that flight. im back now though. safe to be home and happy! thanks for your help.

I think i may be flying easy jet to malaga in august from newcastle as im starting to relax more about this flying!!! do u ever fly this route? whats the weather generally like and how long will the flight be? thanks again
Jess :)

At one point in time Thomas Cook and Condor seemed to be the same
airline - now they seem to be different again. Last year I flew Thomas Cook/Condor to Greece, this year it was just Condor. Anyone know what
this was about? (or maybe I was just hallucinating :)

My guess is that Condor and Thomas Cook still share some affiliation. I am flying with them from Toronto to Frankfurt on Aug. 20 and Thomas Cook is mentioned in the ticket package. I was also told Condor is the Charter division of Lufthansa. Not really sure what the deal is... too nervous now to think straight :mg:

Anyone else know?
