View Full Version : LAX, the show, not the airport

Did anyone else watch the premier of LAX? Once again, Hollywood's idea of airport-themed entertainment plays to our basest fears. On the first night out we had:

1. Neurotic, selfish, and even suicidal airport managers.
2. Manipulation of airport operations as if it was some kind of childish game.
3. Crazed baggage handlers fighting on an active runway.
4. Drunken pilots.
5. Drunken airport police.
6. A terrorist on the loose.
7. And, of course, a bomb.

Yet, somehow it was entertaining. Maybe it's because it was so stupid and implausible. I'll probably tune in from time to time, but I'm sticking with "Airline."

I love airline! I think I have all the episodes recorded.... The show before it "family plots" is good as well.

Sean,

Welcome aboard! I noticed over on the links boards that you have read Captain Ray's book, and I agree with what you said!

Take Care, and again... welcome!

Airline and Airport have been around for a few years in the UK,
I am afraid I find them compulsive viewing.

Mark - Thanks! I'm glad you started this board. I've been lurking and posting occasionally on that other board, but I was about done with it when you started this one. As for Captain Stark, what a guy. I ordered his book maybe a year ago and I only wish I had found it earlier. His postings on the boards have also been a major aid in my recovery from FOF.

As far as the TV stuff, I really have found Airline to be helpful. It makes it seem like an airport is just another workplace, which it is. They have some of the same problems there that the rest of us have where we work. I'm also noticing that as I become more informed about flying I can laugh at shows like LAX and the old Airport movies. There was a time when catching a glimpse of a stupid air-disaster B-movie would put me off flying for months.

Sean,

I agree, I watch airline as well! It does make one aware that flying and flight operations is just everyday stuff!

LAX - that is the last show I wanted to watch on Monday after spending HOURS there on Sunday. I have to say though that I didn't see ANYONE that resembled Heather Locklear working there! LOL
