Are there different rates of descent in a plane? Or is there a standard one? Im asking as when we flew to Florida the landing really worried my hubby {and i am supposed to be the one scared of flying!}. The 'dropping' sensation was quite pronounced, i thought it was great but it really bothered his tummy - in fact he went a funny colour. Coming home to Manchester it was very gentle and you could hardly feel it. I wondered if there were times you descended quicker than others for different reasons.

Yes. The aim on approaches is to fly a three degree slope and the rate of descent depends on the ground speed which depends on weather. The sinking feeling which can make people feel ill is probably due to a downdraft. This can be turned into a good landing.
