Hi and help.
I have flown maybe 15 times but each time got more and more terrified. I am booked on a jet2 flight on sunday to budapest, THIS SUNDAY. I usually get a ferry to Rotterdam then by train and i have to go Buda maybe 12 times per year :-), IT TAKES THREE DAYS. now thats a chicken.

People think i exagerate but really, i am terrified, the nightmares have already started and i have my friends mothers tranquilisers on the ready. I have been trawling through safety records on the net and cannot find any for jet2 yet--- i think this maybe a good sign but i am sure i will have convinced myself otherwise by the time i fly.

I am perfectly rational and cool:cool: .........usually, now i'm just a bag of nerves and i am sure my friends will take great joy in watching me in a state of anxiety.

Does anybody know just how safe jet2 are and where i can find their safety record.

Oh and this may seem really really stupid to the learned but why on earth do they not have parachutes on aircraft. O.k maybe you would just be sucked out before they could deploy or something, or is it just a matter of cost. Just the thought of one under my seat would have me jumping onto the aircraft with a smile.

Any advice/jet2 info would be greatly appreciated.

Jet2 are the budget passenger arm of Channel Express. This is a good company with many people who really enjoy their work.

Budapest is a nice flight over France and Germany with a lovely view of the city as you come in to land. The airport is a good one with modern equipment and two big runways.

Safety reports should not really be read, they are not designed for members of the public. In an ideal world when you read or watched documentaries you would have a friendly neighborhood pilot with you to explain in further detail what you are watching. If reading them helps calm you down and shows you how safe things are fine. If they are just feeding your fear by stoking your imagination STOP.

Perhaps your friends are trying to help by distracting you and trying to take your mind off the flight. I'd check out the main forum for other ideas. I hear music can be quite effective.

Have a nice flight and focus on the fun you are going to have when you are there.

Parachutes are a no no as it is impossible to jump from a passenger jet with any degree of safety. If it was possible the pilots would have them.

I remember reading a similar thought about if black boxes always survive the crash then why the heck arent planes made out of the same stuff! ;)

Im guessing it would make them too heavy to fly....even better! :D
