How do planes fly???

Here is some "basic" info on How Planes Fly... and How Jet (Turbine) engines work.

Sometimes understanding what the principles are helps in overcoming the "unknowns". These "principles" are the same whether you are talking about a toy plane, or a Boeing 747!

That stuff really throws my theory out the window. I just push to levers forward, and when it gets really loud I pull back and wow, I am flying.

Honestly though, beyond the simple instructions of "push the yoke, houses bigger, pull the yoke, houses smaller," all the rest is just fluff. Half of those switches and dials in the cockpit don't do anything anyway. They are just there to look neat.

Uh. are you trying to say as I sit there and picture the pilots with intense expressions on their faces, eyes scanning the skies

Yall crack me up! However, in the "real" world they (the pilots) are keeping an eye on things. Especially take-off! They are watching EVERYTHING. The instruments, the runway, what is up ahead, what is above.... They are even calling systems out to each other. You may have your eyes closed... but their's are wide open.
