Hello

I wonder if you can clarify something for me. Last year I flew with Easyjet from Liverpool to Nice. The flight time was about 6 am and it was almost daylight, but before we took off the lights were dimmed for take off. On the way home we flew at about 4pm and it was still daylight, but still the lights in the cabin were dimmed for take off. I have flown with other airlines but they haven't done this. I am not worried that there was something wrong with the lights or anything like that, but I just wondered why the lights are dimmed for take off on easyjet flights, and why perhaps they don't do it on all airlines?

Thanks :)

The cabin lights are switched off to render the cabin light the same as the outside for two reasons:
1) If the Captain orders an evacuation all of your eyes will be acustomed to the outside lighting conditions.

2) If the evacuation is ordered the girls need to see outside to check the exits are usable and this is easier to do with the cabin lights turned off.

There was talk of only dimming the cabin in the dark but it was felt to avoid forgetting to do this the crew do it every sector just to make sure.

Thanks - I had no idea why they dimmed the lights when taking off, but that makes total sense -I wonder why other airlines don't do the same? :) Full marks to Easyjet!
