We went to Manchester airport today for a therapy session to see if it would calm my nerves, Me, Gary, our two daughters, mother and father in law. I was expecting to feel panicky, nervous etc...

Well.......it was FANTASTIC!!!! I loved every minute of it. We first set of for the viewing platform on top of terminal 1 car park, saw a few planes land and take off. It was a bit noisy but fine. Then we went inside and walked from T1 to T2 which is where our plane takes off from. The kids had a fab time playing on the moving platforms etc.. We saw where we check in at then walked back to the shops and had lunch. You could see the planes but they were quite far off. Then came the best bit. We decided to go to a pub which is called 'The Airport Hotel' it is at the end of runway 1 {I think} at the back its got a garden where you can sit out and drink and the kids can play. The planes were landing only 30 metres away - wow!!!!!!! I loved it. Me!!!! The one who is scared of them landing on her head, and they practically were!!! :D

We spent an hour there, the highlight was seeing a jumbo jet come into land right next to us. It was quieter than I had imagined but boy, when he put his engine into reverse {is that what it is?} to stop - jeez the noise! But it was GREAT!!

Sorry to blurb on - im just so proud of myself. I came a long way today and Im so glad I did it. I may be quite nervous still when it comes to getting on the plane but I think I will be a lot calmer than before. It really helped seeing all those planes take off and land safely and to know there are thousands doing the same thing day in, day out. Right....im off to start my packing now, only 25 days to go!

Daisy Daisy daisy!!

That is great, you made big inroads in to that fear today.

See and the planes did not fall on your head ( sorry but that was so funny, not making fun of you)

Visit the airport as often as you can, it really does help.

Hey Lynda - you may laugh, but as we were sat in the beer garden my Mother-in-law told me about the time one of the planes landing there misjudged it and landed on a council estate!!!!! You should have seen Gary's face - he told her in no uncertain terms that the reason we were there was to HELP me - not scare me! hehehe

Daisy,

The only crash I think that happened near Manchester Airport was the one that happened about 3 miles from my home in Stockport back in 1967 it was a British Midland plane. There was one that had a fire at the airport but I really am not sure about the one your MIL told you about.

Just think of the thousands of planes taking off and landing at Manchester and the only one I can come up with is a crash in 1967 you perhaps was not even born then!!!!

Ok, ive just done something really stupid now. I was surfing the net to find out if it was the stockport disaster my MIL was on about or a different one - big mistake. Graphic comments on how they died. Why oh why oh why did i just do that??

Im going to give myself a good slap now. I will not let this ruin my good work today, but its knocked me a bit.

Born in 1971 btw Lynda.

Daisy,

Do not let it shatter your confidence, it was a long time ago, I remember it because I only live about 3 miles from where it happened.

Millions of planes ago.

Do not even dwell on it, apparently whatever happened then could not happen now anyhow.

Just keep watching those planes taking off and landing safely.
