I have never flown United before- anyone else? I have some options in my ticket choices- MD80? 737?
Flying from Dallas to Philly in April and I have been looking at tix for 2 weeks and not purchasing them- I feel like my decision will be "important":sigh:

United doesn't have any MD-80s, but they do have 737s, A-320s, 767s, 757s, 777s and 747s.
I would vote for the 777 as being the most comfortable.

Oh my gosh- I booked my ticket!!! Chose American Airlines and my boyfriend seemed excited to fly the MD80- so that is what I picked...now I just have to control the anxiety until we go!

I have flown MD 80s 3 times. Fine, no problem. Everyone says the engine noise is louder in the back. I never sat farther back than row 33 so I didn't notice it.
It's my impression that there are a lot of MD 80s out there flying around the country. I would get on one again in a heartbeat. I have also flown the 757 and 737 and they were fine too. I have no particular favorite.
There are websites you can go to to look at the seating plan and outside of your plane...sometimes that helps you get ready for what it will look like...someone here will have the link.
good luck

I got to choose our seats- I chose seats in front of the wing b/c it feels less bumpy to me there. I am so excited about the trip that I am trying to get over being scared of the flight...

www.seatguru.com (http://www.seatguru.com) shows the seating plans. I like the MD-80's seating because it's 2x3, so you have less chance of getting a middle seat. If you can choose your seats, try for seats A and B; that way you and your boyfriend will be on the two-seat side.

Oops, looks like we were posting at the same time! Did you choose the two-seat side? (It's not a big deal, I was just wondering.)

I think it is a little less bumpy in front of the wing. One thing that has been said, that makes sense to me, is that the wing is the center of gravity around which turbulence occurs. More or less. So the closer you are to the wing, the less you feel any movement.
I personally like to be close enough to SEE the wing...then I can be constantly checking to make sure it does not fall off. (If it did, of course, I would no doubt be the one to tell the pilots.)
Actually, more pragmatically, when the flaps go up and the plane gets that slightly wierd feeling, I always feel better looking out the window and visually confirming that it was the flaps.
Where are you going and when?

Flying from Dallas to Philly in April
Hey Spiff - They are heading to Philly from Dallas! :rolling:
Jar: You will be just fine! No problems.
AA is a great airline, and the MD80 is one fine aircraft. The engines are in the rear so the noise level will be low if you are seated up front!
Have a great trip!

oops. I saw that but it didn't register since I was thinking about wings falling off, and such.
