Hey Lynda,

I had oral surgery Thursday, and the Doctor prescribed antibiotics for me to take this week.

BTW, the Oral Surgery was lots of fun! Give me turbulence ANYTIME!

Now my question...

On the warning label it said take with PLENTY of WATER

I typed it just as it said on the bottle, including the bold.

I have, but why... what is up with this stuff???

Thanks!

Hi Mark

Most tablets other than the sublingual or dissolve in your mouth type should be taken with Plenty of water.

The reason for this is so that the tablet does not stick in the Oesophagus on the way down and the substances cause irritation.
Water may speed up the absorbtion of the substances. Some tablets are only water soluble.
Different tablets can be absorbed and broken down by different parts of the gastrointestinal tract.
Enteric coated tablets are broken down lower in the tract and one of the reasons you do not break them.Aspirin is one such tablet that can cause irritation of the stomach hence enteric coated ones are available.
Same with capsules.

Hope this helps
Lynda

Thanks Lynda!

That makes it clear...

I am so paranoid about taking pills that I follow the directions to the letter!

I have been downing bottles of water like a seal!

I do not even like taking aspirin... which I now understand can be worse than Tylenol! Which, I understand... Tylenol can cause liver problems...

NOW do you see why I hate taking pills! :rolling:

Liver problems from Tylenol usually involve very heavy drinkers taking lots of Tylenol. I dont think liver failure has occured when one takes the 1-2 as suggested.
