I had breakfast with Kelley yesterday as I passed through SC - I would gloat that I got to meet her, but it seems like almost everyone else has already gotten to do so because she travels so much!
We had a nice chat. And I got introduced to Perkins...a restaurant I had never been to or heard of before (though my Southern fiance predictably said, "Oh, yeah, Perkins...did you have a muffin?" on the phone when I called him about it).
Kelley proposed an August SOARfest/spiffy's wedding. I told her that was fine as long as everyone brought their own food :)
Anyway...thanks for getting up early, kelley!

Awww Spiffy - it was fun! Hope it wasnt too boring (I was barely awake!!). That muffin you had at Perkins did look good. Yummmmmmmmmmmy!
And umm, cough cough, it is FLIGHTfest not that other word... Road trip for Kelley and Spiffy's birthday and Spiffy's wedding. Bring your own food (I suggested Ken go thru the drive thru at KFC and pick up a couple of buckets of chicken!)...
Janet - next time I am in NYC (which is hopefully SOON) we need to get together! Lunch at Cosi? Monica got me hooked on that place. Love the fresh hummus!
I am lucky! I have met quite a few FOFers. So far I have met Spiffy, FO4 (resident cutie first officer), Monica, Ken, Jeff and Mark! :pompoms:

flightfest....that's what I meant....
I'm a Rhode Islander - I still give directions by saying, "It's where the Ann & Hope USED to be..."

Oh Monica, I ALMOST ordered the Strawberry pancakes but settled on ham and eggs with hashbrowns instead. I did get a side of pancakes (southern term for PLATTER) but no strawberries. :( Spiffy and I had our morning "coffee" too. Diet Coke for her and Sweet Tea with lemon for me! :coffee: :coffee:
Deb, fire up that thread. I am sure YOU will win! :)

I haven't met anybody from the board yet. :( I never go anywhere, though, so that could be why. Someday, someday. Hey, how about a Midwest Flightfest?
I did get a press kit from Kelley today though, too. Sure, you guys have met her, but how many can say she sent you an overnight FedEx? Huh? Huh? :neener:
I'm also totally jealous about you guys going to Perkins! I haven't seen one since I moved to Illinois, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE their Mammoth Muffins. Thanks a lot, now I'm hungry.

A FedExed muffin? I think I'll pass. Maybe if I get really desperate.
(Just for the record, however, my favorite is apple).

Pssst, Erika. They DO have Apple Cinnamon ones....

The one I met Spiffy at is about 20 miles from my house but if you REALLY want a muffin I'll journey back up that way! Hey, can you FEDEX me some of that lasagna???? (No mushrooms though...)

You know, Eli's Cheesecake ships all over, I guess the lasagna could be shipped too...
Tell you what. I'll see if I can get my butt to a Shiloh show (loved their CD, by the way) and I'll promise to bring you a lasagna if you promise to bring me an apple muffin.

Not yet Kelley, I'm going to do Cracker Barrell on the way home. I was so full from our breakfast that I just drove straight to Florida not needing any more food yet.
You're right though, there a lot to choose from on 95 in Georgia/SC

Oh Spiff you will love the place. Wander around the store and find a surprise for Duncan. They have tons of old toys and yummy candies - my kids love the peppermint sticks and the fruit slices.

My Southern almost-in-laws had never heard the word "tchotchkes" before...Monica can probably check whether I am spelling it right.
One definition of tchotchkes is "knicknacks that have no purpose, but you have to dust them regularly." They can be expensive or cheap. For example, the little china figurines in my FMIL (future mother in law)'s living room? Tchotchkes.
Another definition of tchotchkes is "the stuff they sell at Cracker Barrel." Wow. Though I could've gotten my hands on some primo candy if I wasn't feeling larger than life already...
I had chicken and dumplings there at 11 am and almost didn't need to eat the whole rest of the day. What a carb fest.
Yesterday, to beat the winter storm we are getting today, I drove 20 hours straight, leaving Amelia Island at 6 am and arriving home here at 2 am. Up until about 10 pm it wasn't bad at all. The last 4 hours, torture.
Flying really is good...

I do want to try the Peanut Butter place I hear so much about: http://www.ilovepeanutbutter.com/

A side of dumplings....that would've gotten me through the whole day right there...
Let me say right up front that I am not a peanut butter person. I did notice, however, that Cracker Barrel has a peanut butter pie.
I really really wanted to try their chocolate coca-cola cake. But it was not to be - not after those dumplings.

Spiff - I usually get the vegetable (insert laughter here) plate - you get 4 choices so I get fried okra, french fries and TWO orders of dumplings (no chicken in them). YUMMMMMMY! Top that off with biscuits and apple butter and I have the most boring looking food but it sure is yummy!!

What is "apple butter?"
Let me know when you are here Kel. I had my Christmas party at Madam's Tousad's Wax Museum, it was great. We go to tour it, my first time !!!!!!
I wanted to see the Van Helsing room, but it was closed to us (the only one closed to us) :sigh: .
I've never seen a "fat" post..I should read that, maybe it will get me to go on a diet and lose all this tonnage :rolling: , joking about tonnage !!!!! I am heavy, but not tonnage :rotflmao: !!!!! (See you just learned something about me !!!)
When I return from Florida, hopefully I will have an awesome picture of me and Mickey to post. Speaking of Florida, how do I make reservations if I want to swim with the dolphins in Seaworld? And does anyone know if it's expensive?????

Thank you very much Kelley. But I think we are only spending one day at Seaworld, LOL.
As far as I know, this is the plan:
2 days @ Universal
1 day @ Seaworld
4 days @ Disney (all parks).
I'm so excited, my nephews are so excited !!!! I am going to go into your links, thank you so very much for them, it's most appreciated !!!!!!!!!

Janet,
You will have a blast! I worked at Disney for over 7 years and miss it terribly. Pace yourself and drink lots of water. Have FUN and take tons of pictures to show us when you get back!
:)

OH and Apple Butter is this concoction of I THINK cooked apples (smooshed up), cinnamon and other spices. It is thicker than jelly and YUMMMMMMMMY!

So Apple butter is a home made thing? Not something you can get in a store? I'll have to look it up in google on how to make it and test this thing out !!! Gotta luv google.com :happyguy:
Thanks Kelley. I'm really physced !!!!! I'm also prepared for all the walking we will be doing, got myself a good pair of walking sneakers !!!
I was going to bring my digital camera, but w/ the batteries dying out and having to carry xtra one, I'm just going to use my regular camera. I can have them developed onto a CDRom so I can download and send pictures. Hope I get to meat Mickey..and oh Yeah, my favorite, Taz !!! I have to meat Taz...will I be able to meat him there? Is he a Disney charactor !!!!

No, Janet, you can buy Apple Butter in the stores (at least the ones in the South). White House is one brand that we buy quite often.
And ummm :shakehead Taz is a Warner Brother's character so not at Disney. Sorry!
Get pictures with the characters - everyone acts like a kid at Disney so be sure to give Mickey a big hug then smile for a picture. :D

Oh, you can buy it. It's just so much better homemade. Something else good, if you've got Trader Joe's, is their pumpkin butter. Sooooo good, and not fattening!
YankssRule
03-03-2005, 02:09 PM
We don't have a "Trader Joe's" in NYC :sigh: . I'm not even sure if we have apple butter here, so I'm may have to google it and try my hand at making it on my own  (gotta luv google ;) ).
And you know Kelley, I will be the biggest kid at Disney, I'm not going to bring my digital camera tho, don't want to deal with having to worry about the batteries dying out, or it getting wet. In fact, I may buy throw-away cameras, if you get the right ones, they take awesome pictures. I can have them developed and put on CDRom so that I can send them out  .
I had a feeling Taz was Warner Bros, I have his car (Monte Carlo SS, but not the "custom" one w/ his actual picture. It was a limited addition car, and by the time I bought it, they didn't make that one anymore).
Thank you all so very much for the many tips about Disney. :grouphug: Again, I am sooooooo excited...probably just as much as my nephews :rotflmao: . Of course, I'll keep a diary, and post all the fun that I had, so if it's long, sorry !!!
