Does anyone have trouble getting to sleep the night before their flight? Have any techniques to share on how to be able to catch some ZZZZZZZ's so you are well rested for your flight??

I am the type that before we travel or anything big in life, like moving, I can't sleep! I couldn't sleep for 2 nights when we moved to a bigger house over the summer. I have all this stuff on my mind that I can't rest, even though I'm exhausted physically. All night I think, "I NEED to get some sleep! If I fall asleep now, I'll get 5 hours." Which makes it worse cause I feel pressure to sleep!

I also have newborn, 7 weeks, who still doesn't sleep through the night, so I know I'll be up late anyway the night before our flight, and will only have a shot at getting 6 hrs at the most! Unless by some miracle she's sleeping through the night in a couple more weeks.

So how do you get to sleep when feeling stressed or excited about an upcoming flight?

Thanks, ladies! Yah, I'll ask my husband if he'll do the 11:00/midnight feeding, so I can go to sleep earlier, or try to at least. I've never drank warm milk, but will try that as well, and other relaxation techniques suggested. It's so hard to make your mind relax sometimes! I might have to start the week before to get used to relaxing.

When I think about the flight or am watching aviation videos I am actually thinking good thoughts, that it'll be fun. When just a couple weeks ago, I felt dread and fear, thinking of how high up we'll be. Now I know the plane is happiest up in the air and is "swimming" in the air! ;)

On the night before, packing (and watching Susan doing most of packing-hahaha) and making decisions about what to pack...there's always more stuff you want to take than luggage room...tend to wear me down and make me sleepy.

For early flights, I worry about not getting up when the alarm goes off...the experts say, set TWO alarms...good advice! :wired:
