Thanks to everyone in chat last nite for the hugs, well wishes and advice. I figured I would let you guys know the next step on our quest to find the source of my 6 year old's pounding headaches. The Neurologist gave her a complete neurological exam today and asked tons of questions. He is sending her for an MRI and an MRA (Spiffy what is THAT??) on Tuesday and if that is all clear then he is going to start her on blood pressure medication which prevents migraines.
The scariest part right now is worrying about the sedation for the MRI. Yikes!
I fly out tomorrow and back on Sunday to BNA (where I get to have dinner with FO4SWAinPHX). My oldest (age 11) is home sick today with a virus and Abbey of course has her headache. I hate leaving the kiddos when they are sick but luckily this is a short trip!
:)

Wow, I'm sorry I missed the first post about your daughter. I hope everything goes well and that there's a simple explanation for her headaches.

Erika - there was no first post, we were just talking about it in chat last nite. Everyone was great and offered advice. :)
Just a brief background of what is going on: My 6 year old daughter Abbey has had pounding headaches every single day for the past 7 weeks. We have been to the Pediatrician several times and been on rounds of antibiotics and even had blood drawn. We took her to the Pediatric ER where she got a CT scan and a nice bracelet with her name on it (but no relief). She has been to the ENT where she had another CT scan and her ears cleaned out (packed with wax) and a hearing test by the in house Audiologist. Next stop the eye doctor where he found she was a tad far sighted and gave her glasses to wear for school work. The eye doctor said the headaches couldnt be vision related in his opinion because she was waking up with them in the middle of the nite. The ear doctor said no sign of sinus issues so they arent sinus headaches. The ER doctor insists these are migraines but the other doctors disagreed. We even called the Gas company to come out and thoroughly check out the house for possible CO leaks. Nada.
The school has been accomodating to a point by letting her eat lunch in her class room instead of the busy cafeteria and by giving her a pass to go to the nurse whenever she feels she needs her medicine.
Here's my cutie's picture on Xmas Day with Kirsten her new American Girl doll (if you read my Xmas trip report this was the one I lugged all over Manhattan and crammed on the plane!): http://pic6.picturetrail.com/VOL171/1720900/6062170/77833931.jpg

Hi Kelley.
Sorry Abbie is having problems.
MRI scan = Magnetic resonance imaging, it shows cross section pictures of parts of the body in detail.
MRA scan Magnetic Resonance Angiography shows the state of the blood vessels. They may or may not give a contrast material IV prior to this.

Kelley,
My daughter Genevieve also had Migraines from an early age about 9 years old. The doctors said they were due to hormonal changes although 6 is a bit young for this.
She outgrew them by about 17 years old. When she married and became pregnant the migraines started again, hormonal changes!
I hope Abbie gets sorted out soon.
