Hey all!
Just thought I'd give you the scoop on my latest trip, BNA to LGA and back this week.
My flight to LGA was Sunday at 11:00 am, so I decided to have a friend pick me up early and go breakfast at the Cracker Barrel (loves me some biscuits and gravy!). I was a little more wound up than normal, since my last flight to Bermuda was not without incident, but handling things pretty well. Got to the airport with about an hour and a half to spare and settled in at the gate. I took 2.5 xanax (0.25 mg each) but was still a little wound up. I'm also not the best on flights that aren't first thing in the morning, I've discovered. Anyway, I hung out with my I-River MP3 player until it was time to board. We boarded and I made the discovery that my new briefcase (with wheels due to a sore shoulder) wouldn't fit in the overhead of the ERJ I was on. I stuffed it under the seat and resigned myself to not having a lot of leg room on the flight. We took off and I tried to control my fear, and after a while, I managed to settle in and nap a little bit. The flight was smooth all the way to LGA, and we landed pretty much on time.
On Tuesday, when I was scheduled to come home, the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne started to blow into NYC. By the time I got up, most of my meetings had cancelled and I was left with only a 3pm meeting and an 8:15 flight, the last flight out for the night. LGA was already on a 40 minute delay, and I knew it wasn't going to get any better, so I cancelled my last meeting and headed off to the airport around 1:00 to get on standby for the 4:45 flight. I checked in at the first class counter (love the lovely FF miles!) and was told there was a 2:55 flight I could take instead. Whoo hoo! I went to the gate, got my seat assignment and waited to depart. Took 2.25 xanax and made small talk with a guy at the gate (who may have been hitting on me, I can't always tell those sorts of things) until it was time to go.They called for boarding and this time I am smart enough to gate check my larger briefcase, and then I get on the plane. I am advised that the first part of the flight will be bumpy due to the weather and I try to stay calm while we wait to take off. Finally, we're off. It is bumpy for the first hour or so...the seatbelt sign stays on the whole time, but then it smooths out. We land in BNA and I happily grab my bag and go home, a full 5 hours before I was supposed to be home and a full 9 hours than my original flight actually landed (it was delayed more than 4 hours at LGA, much as I suspected it would be).
So, anyhoo, I'm home and not flying again until mid-month. I'm hoping I'll have the Bermuda trip a little more in perspective by then so I don't drug myself into a stupor on every flight from now on. Oh, and Delta sent me a $75 voucher for the Bermuda flight experience. Who knew?
All the best,
Ice
