To cut costs, Southwest deploys life vests
The airline will equip its fleet to fly over the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico to trim fuel costs and time on some routes.

Southwest Airlines will begin equipping its planes this year for trips over water, a first for the discount giant that flies only domestic routes.
The airline doesn't plan to launch international flights but says the move will let pilots fly more direct routes over the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean, saving time and increasingly costly fuel. ..........
