So...it looks like this trip of my boyfriend's is not going to be an easy one. I am way more nervous right now than I ever am when I'm flying myself. I am going to be biting my nails until bedtime, at least.
His schedule was Chicago to Pittsburgh to Philadelphia to Williamsport. But it's not gonna happen that way, apparently.
As he was leaving for the airport, USAirways called him to say that his flight from Philadelphia to Williamsport has been cancelled. They wanted to put him on a 6:15 flight to Philadelphia, but he's not due to be in Pittsburgh till 6:30 (on a different airline though, which USAirways seemed to not comprehend). So they told him to find a hotel in Philadelphia. Luckily, my sister lives there, so he's going to stay with her, but they didn't offer him anything, just said find a hotel and we'll get you out on the first flight the next morning.
However, since USAirways was pushing that 6:15 flight on him, I am so afraid they're going to book him on that, despite the fact that he told them not to, and he's going to end up stranded in Pittsburgh tonight.
I'm wondering...what do airlines have to do when they cancel on you like that? The only thing I know about is the rule that if they cancel your flight for non-weather related reasons, if you ask, they have to put you on the next flight from that airport to your destination, no matter what airline it's on. Unfortunately, only the one airline goes to Williamsport.
