In our talks about Castaway it made me realize that there are several movies out there with "scary plane scenes" in them that fearful flyers probably should avoid.

Add to the list of movies with the ones you can think of!

Castaway
Air Force One (granted the chances of any of us ever being on THAT plane are slim....)
Random Hearts
Six Days, Seven Nights (hey wait a second - does Harrison Ford ALWAYS get the lead in plane crash movies??)

Anyone else?

Garden State starts out with a plane going down. We learn pretty quickly that it's just a dream.

OK how about films people should see, like Airplane. Fight fear by poking fun at it. For most of my collegues this is a favourite.

Good point, Royd. One of my favorites is the comedy "View from the Top" starring Gwyneth Paltrow - she is a new flight attendant that has never flown before - I roll laughing every time I see it.

We also rented "Soul Plane" one nite (we were REALLLLLLLLLLLLY bored) and as stupid as it was it did have some funny moments!

I also love the show Wings (comes on at 4am EST on Nick at Nite - yes I am usually still awake then).

If the situations don't bother you, these dorky movies will give you occasional chuckles when the scenes and the acting border on the ridiculous!

Air Rage - STUPID highjack/terror situation...and BAD acting. Viewer "Air Rage blatantly rips off the mid-air infiltration premise of Executive Decision. Ice-T leads a team of four "elite" commandos who wear baggy black shirts that we can only imagine must conceal invisible body armor as their idiotic tactics (similar to what 3rd graders use when playing Star Wars on the playground) lead them to absorb a hail of gunfire." FA lands 747 plane at end.

Turbulence - Almost as BAD as Air Rage. After a shootout on a flight transporting prisoners, a stewardess (Lauren Holly) must outwit a smooth-talking serial killer and land the 747 plane herself end of movie.

Based on these movies, any of us could land a 747 with just a handful of coaching from the ATC!

I like Roger Ebert's funny review of "Turbulence":

He gave it one star.
